SimpleumCheck is a very welcome new Mac security app from Simpleum Media GmbH that takes on issues with Apple’s default system setup. The app (which installs a „helper“ program) checks your Mac for dozens of settings that affect security and privacy, preparing a color-coded, three-level report with information and help attached to each item… You can override individual recommendations as you see fit, but the checklist is detailed, extensive, unique and highly useful.

Die Freeware SimpleumCheck hilft bei der Absicherung eines Macs gegen Hacker und Datenspione, ein wenig erinnert sie an eine Checkliste. Startet man die Software, prüft sie etwa zwei Dutzend Systemeinstellungen wie Freigabeeinstellungen, Firewall oder Softwareupdates. Eine farbige Grafik zeigt danach, welche der Einstellungen sicher und weniger sicher sind, rot markierte Einträge sind besonders gefährlich. Drei Stufen sind wählbar: Basic, Professional und Paranoid. Allerdings ist schon die Stufe Basic nach unserer Meinung recht weitgehend, so wird schon der Verzicht auf die Verschlüsselung FileVault bemängelt. Für Mobilrechner sind die Empfehlungen aber durchaus gerechtfertigt.

On the macOS, security configurations are scattered all over the System Prefeences control panel. This makes it awkward to review regularly all the security settings on your computer.
An interesting piece of security software has been released for macOS to solve this issue. SimpleumCheck will review all your computer settings in a single sweep and suggests modifications to perform. SimpleumCheck is very simple to use and it generates a report separated in 3 categories, giving you a score in each of those. Each item, or configuration setting, is classified as High, Medium, Low or Passed.

SimpleumCheck has created a database of recommended settings to increase security on a Mac. They have broken things down into three categories: Basic, Professional, and Paranoid. Each category has around 20 checks that are broken down into high, medium, or low risk as well as showing which checks that your system passed. That is a lot of info, but if you want to simply focus on the high risk items then you can get some good things done in the first ten minutes of using the app.
