Disable automatic loading of remote content by Apple Mail

Email with HTML content can load visible or invisible images (tracking pixels) when you want to read the mail. This tracking is used to know if and when you have read the email.

How to fix it

macOS 14

  1. Open “Mail” > “Preferences” > “Privacy”
  2. Select “Block all remote content” or select “Protect Mail Activity”

When you use “Protect Mail Activity” maybe tracking data / URLs in the Mail are tracked.

macOS 10.11 – 13

  1. Open “Mail” > “Preferences” > “Viewing”
  2. Deselect “Load remote content in messages”
