Disable Remote Application Scripting on Mac
If you do not intentionally run AppleScript automation on this Mac from another computer, turn off Remote Application Scripting. Apple previously called this sharing service Remote Apple Events.
When the service is on, AppleScript programs on other computers can send Apple events that interact with apps on your Mac—for example, to open or print a document. Disabling an unused remote-control service reduces the Mac’s network-accessible functionality.
How to fix it
Current macOS versions
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Open General > Sharing. You may need to scroll down.
- Turn off Remote Application Scripting.
macOS 10.11–12
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing.
- Clear the Remote Apple Events checkbox.
If you need remote AppleScript
Do not disable the service if a known automation workflow depends on it. Instead, click the information button next to Remote Application Scripting and set Allow access for to Only these users. Grant access only to the accounts that require it and use the service only on networks you trust.
Remote Application Scripting is separate from Remote Login, Remote Management, Screen Sharing, and File Sharing. Turning off this setting does not disable those other services. Review them separately; see Disable Remote Management.
