SimpleumSafe 3.8: For the day an important document matters

Important documents may sit untouched for years—and then need to be present, readable, and accessible at a decisive moment. The new Security Center in SimpleumSafe 3.8 helps users keep the preparation for that moment in view.

Encryption protects contracts, tax records, certificates, and family documents from unwanted access. A long-term archive also depends on whether stored data can still be read, a backup is available, and a route back into the safe has been prepared in case the password is forgotten.

Preparation at a glance

SimpleumSafe 3.8 Security Center on iPad
  • The Security Center brings data integrity, backup, software version, and recovery key into one central view for each safe.
  • The status levels Good, Action required, Notice, and Critical show whether the evaluated areas are in order or whether a next step would be useful.
  • Selected reminder and escalation thresholds can be adapted to individual workflows. The Integrity Checker uses defaults of 7 and 30 days.
  • SimpleumSafe can check whether a newer Store version of the app is available and guide users to the App Store or Mac App Store when needed.

Four areas for a long-term archive

  • Data integrity: The Integrity Checker’s baseline check includes every file in a safe and looks for typical logical and structural errors. Optionally, it can read and decrypt every stored encrypted data file in full and check synchronization status.
  • Backup: On Mac, the Security Center can include internal backup status. Users can record external backups, schedule reminders, and confirm them manually across platforms. External backups are not detected automatically or tested for recoverability.
  • Recovery key: A recovery key set up in advance helps users regain access after forgetting a safe password. Without that preparation, Simpleum cannot reopen the safe because of its encryption.
  • Software version: The Security Center shows whether a newer Store version is available. Using a current app version is part of responsible data care; not every update is automatically a security update.

What is new in version 3.8

The Integrity Checker, internal Mac backup, and recovery key all existed before version 3.8. What is new is their shared status and follow-up logic, the Store version check, and external backup management. Together, these elements turn separate tools into clear areas of preparation in one view.

iOS and macOS

The Security Center is available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. There is one important difference for backups: on Mac, SimpleumSafe can include internal backup status. On iOS, there is no internal SimpleumSafe backup and restore system like the one on Mac; there, the Security Center supports external backups with reminders and manual confirmation.

After the update

After the update, it is worth taking a quick look at the Security Center. Open a safe and check whether the evaluated areas are well prepared. A current Integrity Checker run, a maintained backup status, and a securely stored recovery key are especially useful.

The Security Center is not a security guarantee. It makes important safeguards visible, but it does not replace regular backups, secure storage of the password and recovery key, or conscious maintenance of important documents.
