The backup folder is not available or accessible

Why you see the message?

This message can appear in the Backup Preferences view for one of the following reasons:

  1. The backup folder is on a drive that is not currently mounted (e.g. a USB stick that is not plugged in).
  2. macOS has marked the stored backup folder information as stale (outdated or invalid).
  3. You copied or restored your Safe from another location, and the original backup folder no longer exists.

How to fix it

  1. Mount the drive If the backup folder is on external media (e.g. a USB stick), connect or mount the device and wait a few seconds. The red error message should disappear.

  2. Re-select the folder (Background: The app saves the folder path along with security and permission data. Sometimes this information becomes invalid.) In this case, manually select the same folder again. This updates the stored permissions, and the red error message should disappear.

  3. Create a new folder If the original backup folder no longer exists, create a new folder and select it as the backup location.
